About Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative
Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative has been in business for more than 80 years, and we provide electric, internet and phone service to members in a four county area in Eastern Iowa. These are the counties of Dubuque, Delaware, Jones and Jackson.
Being an electric cooperative means we are owned by the customers we service who are members of the Cooperative. Our CEO reports to a 9 member board of directors who are all residents served by MVEC and they represent all parts of our service area. So the decisions they make actually affect them as well as the other members they represent.
We currently have 70 full-time employees who comprise our Operations, Finance, Engineering, Business Development, Communications, Human Resources, Information Technology, Safety, Fiber and Executive departments.
In 2016 Maquoketa Valley took on a new challenge, in addition to providing electricity we enhanced our Smartgrid effort with the installation of a fiber optic network throughout our service area. In addition to providing greater bandwith for the collection of data and expanding the communication network with our substations it will provide access to a high speed internet connection for all our members. This service is called MVlink.
